Dress Line "Staincollar Coat"

Introducing The Dressing Lab's custom Staincollar Coat.

Staincollar Coat

Staincollar Coat

The Dressing Lab's bespoke Staincollar Coat has its roots in sporty categories, such as the British-made rubberized raincoats. While there are various theories regarding the origin of the Staincollar Coat, the prevalent belief is that it evolved from the iconic trench coat. Due to its simplicity and ease of coordination, the Staincollar Coat is a favored fashion item, and it might be fair to say that for many, both men and women, it's a quintessential coat design they are familiar with.

Speaking of the term "Staincollar", there seems to be no other item with such a diverse range of names and spellings. It is referred to as "soutien collar coat", "sten collar coat", "bal collar coat", among others. However, in our store, we choose to call it the Staincollar Coat. Interestingly, "Staincollar" is a play on words originating from the English term "Stand Fall Collar", which has been phonetically adapted in Japan. This term has so firmly established itself in the Japanese vernacular that other renditions seem rather uncommon.

the defining feature of the Staincollar is the collar itself.
As its name suggests, the defining feature of the Staincollar is the collar itself. The characteristic design of the Staincollar, true to its original "Stand Fall Collar" namesake, is a collar that stands up towards the neck and is then folded back partway. The back of the collar is high, tapering to a lower point as it approaches the front.

Staincollar boasts substantial height
The Dressing Lab's meticulously tailored Staincollar boasts substantial height, providing protection from wind and outside elements. Additionally, it fits snugly around the neck to ensure that the underlying jacket does not peek out from beneath the coat. Its modestly-sized collar seamlessly complements both business attire and more casual ensembles like those paired with knitwear. On windy days, casually popping the collar up adds a stylish touch.

The attachment of sleeves on the Staincollar Coat can be categorized into two main types: Raglan sleeves and Set-in sleeves (a style similar to conventional jackets). Our store's Staincollar Coat utilizes the Set-in sleeve design. However, at The Dressing Lab, we also offer a Staincollar Coat with Raglan sleeves. Customers can order this variation as the Raglan Coat.

A Sleek, Standard Silhouette

The Dressing Lab's Staincollar Coat, tailored with set-in sleeves, features a modest A-line design that reduces volume in the front, creating a particularly streamlined appearance. Meticulous ironwork and detailed tailoring provide a clean look, while ensuring ample volume around the shoulders for superior comfort. Like other custom items from The Dressing Lab, the coat is finished as light and soft as possible.

Compared to trench coats, the Staincollar Coat boasts a minimalist design, with fewer details, making it ideal for easy and nimble wear. Given that it has fewer belts and buttons compared to the detail-rich trench, it offers simplicity that's highly appreciated when boarding crowded commuter trains or holding the coat in hand - reducing the risk of snags. Both its appearance and feel are refreshingly light.

Considering a Relaxed Staincollar Silhouette...

With our emphasis on a sleek design, one might think, "I get that The Dressing Lab's Staincollar Coat has a streamlined form, but what if I want a trendier, looser silhouette? Can I order that?" Rest assured, at The Dressing Lab, we offer two different silhouettes for the Staincollar. For those desiring the neat, standard silhouette we've discussed, we recommend our "Staincollar Coat." However, for those seeking an oversized, relaxed A-line, we suggest the previously mentioned "Raglan Coat."

While it might feel like there's no need to customize a big silhouette coat, it's not just about increasing the size. Especially with oversized designs, aspects like waist positioning and overall length are crucial for achieving the right balance. If you're in the market for a relaxed Staincollar silhouette, please consider our "Raglan Coat."

Two Front Design Options

Customers can choose from two front designs for The Dressing Lab's Staincollar Coat.

button-through tailoring
The design where the button is visible when fastened is called "button-through tailoring" or "button-through front". This design offers a modern and agile impression.

fly-front tailoring
The design where the button remains concealed when fastened is termed "fly-front tailoring" or "fly front". Opting for the fly front results in a cleaner appearance due to the concealed buttons, giving off a classic and subdued impression.

While the choice between "button-through" and "fly-front" is a common topic when ordering a Chesterfield coat, it's also relevant for the Staincollar Coat. You can select based on the fabric's compatibility and your preferred aesthetic. This flexibility in choice, tailored to individual preferences, is one of the joys unique to a custom-made Staincollar Coat. It's worth noting that the Staincollar Coat can be buttoned up all the way. For instance, when wearing knitwear, fastening only the top button can offer a playful variation in style.

Let's examine the other details. The vent is a center vent, creating a streamlined back style without the clutter of buttons or belts. This simplicity characterizes the Staincollar Coat's unique personality.

At the cuffs, you have the option to add button-fastened tabs. Originally designed to tighten the cuff and prevent wind and rain from entering, these tabs now also serve as a stylish accent for the minimalist Staincollar design. Of course, you can opt to forego them for an even cleaner finish.

The coat features slanted patch pockets at the waist. Their optimal size and height make them incredibly user-friendly. They are spacious enough to snugly fit a paperback book, making the coat perfect for sneaking in your favorite read when you head out.

Choose from a range of unique fabric materials and colors not commonly found in ready-made options.

One of the highlights of bespoke tailoring is the ability to select your preferred fabric. While ready-made Staincollar coats are often found in beige or navy cotton, reminiscent of trench or spring coats, a custom-made option offers a choice of materials such as cashmere, wool, or tweed, which aren't typically used for ready-made Staincollar coats. Crafting the coat with these textured fabrics can dramatically alter the familiar look of a Staincollar coat.

Opting for navy or gray wool or cashmere will give the coat a formal touch, whereas tweed or checked patterns lend a casual flair. Of course, traditional fabrics like cotton gabardine are perfect if you want the coat as a light alternative to a trench coat for spring.

If you've ever spotted a Staincollar coat from a favorite brand or seen one ranking high on a list and thought, "I wish it was slightly different," why not seize this opportunity to have a bespoke Staincollar coat tailored to your exact preferences?

A delightful aspect of bespoke orders is the freedom to choose not just the fabric, but also buttons, lining, and personalized embroidery. Moreover, similar to jacket customizations, each coat is tailored to match the client's physique and preferences.

Length is entirely up to you. Whether you prefer an above-the-knee length for easy movement or a longer coat that reaches below the knee, emphasizing warmth and ambiance, it's all possible. For those seeking a Staincollar coat that is both simplistic and of premium quality, tailored perfectly to your body and preferences, we warmly invite you to consult with The Dressing Lab.
