In recent years, as business casual style has become more common, we have received many requests from customers for casual suits made from sporty materials such as jersey and nylon. They wanted something that could be worn both for work and on days off. We are happy to say that we have finally prepared the sewing specifications and fabric options to answer those requests.

Let me introduce each feature in more detail.

Sporty, Yet Tailored with a Sense of Quality

There are many casual setups available today, but for The Dressing Lab, it was important to offer something that was both made-to-order and refined. Our Easy Setup is no exception. Just like our other made-to-order items, we place great importance on both tailoring and fabric quality.

The sewing is not handled by a typical casual-wear factory. Instead, we ask one of Japan's top made-to-order factories, which usually makes our suits and coats, to produce these pieces. We also carefully select fabrics that suit the Easy Setup while still offering a sense of quality and long-term wearability. As a result, the setup has a relaxed casual feel, but also retains elegance, refinement, and a quietly luxurious atmosphere.

Let me begin with the jacket. Our Easy Sports Jacket is designed to be the lightest jacket we offer. It uses minimal lining and interlining, and is made with a slim-turn specification. While our regular unconstructed jacket uses a wider turn, this slim-turn construction makes that part of the jacket as narrow as possible, creating an even softer and lighter finish. Because there is less fabric overlap at the front, breathability is also improved, making the jacket feel cooler when worn. All of our jackets are often praised for their lightness and softness, but the Easy Sports Jacket is the lightest among them.

Although the jacket is designed for lightness, it still has practical inner pockets on both sides. Since there is no lining, the inside seams are carefully finished with piping. One of the enjoyable parts of made-to-order tailoring is that you can choose the piping color to match the fabric.

The jacket is not only light. Even though it is a casual setup jacket, you can still see traditional tailored jacket details throughout. The gorge line, where the upper collar and lower collar are joined, is not simply straight. It is angled, creating a curved and softer expression.

The rise of the upper collar, which stands properly and sits around the neck, also shows that this jacket is a carefully tailored piece, despite its casual character. Even with an unconstructed make, volume is added around the front shoulder and arm area to improve comfort and help prevent unnecessary creasing.

By combining the lightweight specifications required for a modern setup with the details of a classic tailored jacket, our Easy Setup becomes a hybrid that brings together the strengths of both.

The Drawstring Pants are also a hybrid of modern and classic styles. At first glance, they look like traditionally tailored trousers, but they feature an elastic waistband that can be adjusted with a drawcord. One of their strengths is that they can be made in a wide range of materials, including stretch fabrics, jersey, and nylon, which are often difficult to handle in regular tailoring.

These pants are shown here with a two-pleat drawstring design. While no pleats are standard, one-pleat and two-pleat options are also available. The pleats are designed with controlled volume, so even two pleats can look clean and sharp. A slim silhouette in stretch fabric can look very sleek, while a pleated version with a slightly wider tapered line can also be very attractive. Being able to adjust the silhouette and details to your preference is one of the advantages of made-to-order clothing.

The drawcord has the look of a high-quality shoelace, with metal tips at the ends, giving it a refined touch. The subtle visibility of the drawcord is one of the charms of these pants, but if you feel it looks a little too casual for business settings, it can be tucked inside and tied discreetly. When the cord is hidden, the pants look like refined slacks.

When the cord is pulled inside, you can also choose whether or not to add belt loops, depending on your preference.

The waistband is elastic, giving the pants flexibility. The elastic sections are placed subtly at the sides, so from the front they do not look obviously like elastic-waist pants. This helps maintain an elegant appearance. The combination of elastic and drawcord reduces tightness and creates a light, comfortable fit. This design is especially useful in warmer seasons, when you want to avoid unnecessary restriction and wear something cool and relaxed.

For the hem, you can choose a plain finish, a double finish, or a more casual triple-fold stitched finish. If you want a sportier impression, I recommend the triple-fold stitch. If you are making the pants in wool stretch for business use, a double finish can also look very stylish.

Our Drawstring Pants can also be made with the popular crease stitch option, where stitching is added along the center crease line to help keep the crease in place. This is especially useful for pants made from stretch or jersey materials, which can lose their crease more easily or develop wrinkles around the knees. The crease stitch helps solve those concerns in a lasting way.

A Balance of Dress and Casual, Making It Easy to Style

Unlike formal wear such as suits or jacket-and-trouser combinations, business casual style allows much more freedom. That freedom can sometimes make it difficult to decide how casual you should go. With the Easy Setup, however, just like with a suit, you only need to choose your inner layer and shoes, making styling much easier.This setup is tailored from black cotton-nylon by Ormetex. It has a look similar to what is sometimes called a "swishy" suit. Because it has a sportier mood than a regular suit, it pairs naturally not only with shirts and ties, but also with polo shirts and T-shirts.

For shoes, you can choose from a wide range of options, from dress shoes and loafers to sneakers, which have now become a standard choice. The ease of completing an outfit by simply choosing the inner layer and shoes, combined with greater versatility than a traditional suit, makes dressing much simpler. On busy mornings when you are standing in front of your wardrobe, I think you will naturally reach for this setup. In an age where occasions requiring a strict dark suit are becoming fewer, this Easy Setup can be very reassuring for those who find it difficult to look polished in casual clothing.

Because it is a setup, the jacket and pants can also be worn separately. The Easy Sports Jacket pairs well with slacks, and can also be thrown easily over casual combinations such as a T-shirt and cotton pants. The same is true for the pants. If they are tailored in wool stretch, they can be worn with many jackets you already own as slacks, while also pairing naturally with casual tops such as T-shirts or knitwear. Having one solid-colored Easy Setup in your wardrobe can greatly expand your casual styling options and make dressing much easier.

From 100% natural stretch wool to nylon, you can choose the fabric that best suits your needs, and even with the same measurements and details, the impression can change greatly depending on the material. The word "jersey" may sound casual, but the category often called luxury sportswear has become popular around the world. As demand for high-quality jersey fabrics has grown, well-known fabric makers have continued to develop more refined jersey materials.

Caccioppoli
Double-Faced Jersey
Wool-Polyurethane Blend
Caccioppoli from Italy is a familiar name at our store. Although Caccioppoli is often associated with classic fabrics, they also offer jersey fabrics in their collection. This particular fabric is a wool jersey in Caccioppoli's signature blue. High-quality wool is blended with stretch fiber, giving the fabric elasticity while also maintaining excellent recovery.

The double-faced design, with different colors on the front and back, is a distinctive Caccioppoli touch. When the jacket is made unlined, the vivid reverse side may occasionally show, adding a stylish accent. The fabric has a moderate weight, making it suitable for wear across many seasons.

Loro Piana
"The Smarter"
100% Wool Jersey
From Loro Piana comes an elegant jersey fabric that feels very characteristic of the brand. It is available in three colors: blue, grey, and greige.

The delicate coloring, fine texture, and beautiful luster show the unmistakable quality of Loro Piana. A setup made from this fabric will have a refined elegance that is not often found in ordinary jersey suits.

Reda
"REDA ACTIVE"
100% Wool Jersey
Reda, known as one of the leading makers of stretch fabrics, also offers wool jersey. Their 100% wool jersey is soft, resilient, and has a refined feel.

Although wool jersey fabrics have been increasing in recent years, many makers still offer only a limited range of colors. Reda, however, provides an attractive color palette. Colors such as khaki and light brown are exactly the tones many customers are looking for now. The slightly heathered appearance of the jersey is also very appealing. As expected from Reda, the balance of quality and value is excellent.

Elegant Stretch Fabric

At first glance, these fabrics may look like regular suit fabrics, but they are actually stretch materials that work beautifully for tailored setups. Compared with jersey fabrics, they have a more understated casual feel, making them highly versatile. They are especially useful for business casual suits that can be worn comfortably in professional settings.

Loro Piana
"Rain System Fairway"
Wool 69%, Nylon 28%, Polyurethane 3%
This is a remarkable sports fabric from Loro Piana. Rain System fabrics usually combine wool and nylon with a water-repellent treatment, and have often had a firmer feel suitable for outerwear. Rain System Fairway, however, takes a new approach by combining wool and nylon in an extremely thin stretch fabric unlike ordinary suit fabrics.

This fabric combines the softness of wool with the crispness of nylon. It has a unique wearing feel that is both structured and stretchy, and it is also water-repellent. It is truly a setup fabric for the modern era. I have personally worn a setup made from this fabric, and I really enjoy its lightness and softness. As expected from Loro Piana, the colors are also outstanding.

Reda
"REDA FLEXO"

Wool 75%, Lyocell 24%, Polyurethane 1%
Reda also offers Reda Active, a highly recommended 100% wool tropical stretch fabric, but here I would like to introduce the newer stretch fabric, Reda Flexo.

Reda Flexo uses regenerated polyurethane that does not contain harmful substances and is designed to be biodegradable. It is a sustainable fabric, but what is especially appealing is its texture. By blending regenerated lyocell, it has a unique cool touch and feel that is different from other fabrics. Although it is soft, it is also resistant to wrinkles. This fabric works beautifully not only for casual suits, but also for individual Drawstring Pants, where it performs very well as casual slacks.

Caccioppoli
Stretch Denim
Cotton, Polyurethane
This may be a little too casual to call a suit fabric, but because denim-based orders have been increasing, I would like to introduce it as a special option. Caccioppoli's classic stretch denim is ideal for tailored denim slacks or denim suits. Compared with ordinary denim, it has a more refined expression and less roughness, giving it an elegant finish that does not feel too casual. If you want a stronger texture, the fabric can also be washed once before tailoring to create a rougher appearance.

Sporty Nylon Fabric, Often Called "Swishy"

Nylon fabric has a sporty and casual character that wool cannot reproduce. It is lightweight, yet highly durable and functional. Just as demand for wool jersey has grown, global demand for nylon fabrics has also increased, and more luxurious versions have been developed. These high-quality nylon fabrics could almost be called luxury nylon. So-called "swishy suits" made from nylon pair well not only with shirts or polo shirts, but also with sportier items such as T-shirts and hoodies. They are also ideal for those who want to wear their setup with sneakers.

"Prestige Collection"

Among the swishy nylon-style materials, I especially recommend this cotton-nylon fabric from the respected Italian company Ormetex. I am also wearing this fabric in the image above. The matte texture and lightly crinkled finish create a very well-balanced atmosphere.

The fabric has the airy and light feel that is unique to cotton-nylon, making it extremely comfortable to wear. By incorporating the strength of nylon, it achieves both thinness and durability. It is also highly resistant to wrinkles, making it an ideal choice for travel or business trips. The intentionally muted, smoky color variations are particularly attractive.

Euro Jersey
"Sensitive"
Nylon 72%, Polyurethane 28%

At our store, we are pleased to introduce fabrics from Euro Jersey, a specialist jersey manufacturer from Italy. This company supplies materials to well-known Italian outerwear brands and has also been active in sustainability efforts since 2007. Their jersey fabric is made using eco-conscious nylon and polyurethane. I used to think natural fibers were always superior, but encountering such a high-quality synthetic jersey was a real eye-opener.

The texture is unlike ordinary nylon. Although the word "nylon" may suggest a crisp swishy material, this jersey feels more like a thin wetsuit fabric. It is soft, smooth against the skin, and extremely stretchy. Even when tailored in a slim silhouette, it feels stress-free. Its appearance is different from wool, with a matte and even color that gives it a sporty yet chic atmosphere. It pairs beautifully with hoodies and high-tech sneakers. Because it is wrinkle-resistant and washable, it can be worn with ease. Personally, I am even considering making a suit from this fabric for commuting by bicycle.
