Dress Line "Tie"

I am pleased to introduce to you the "Order Tie" line of dress ties from The Dressing Lab. Our custom-made neckties at The Dressing Lab are tailored to your preferences in every aspect - from your choice of fabric to the length, width, thickness of the core, and stitching method. We can also create a unique, one-of-a-kind necktie using deadstock fabric, making it an excellent choice for gifts and presents.

In the rapidly evolving business fashion landscape, where casual and lightweight attire is increasingly favored in cool biz and remote work settings, the traditional role of neckties, like suits, is diminishing. Tying a necktie is no longer obligatory, which underscores the importance of choosing one that complements your jacket and shirt. The origin of the necktie, or cravat, is said to be a piece of cloth worn around the neck as a talisman by European soldiers heading to battle. Allow us to assist you in facing your daily challenges with a custom-made necktie that perfectly fits your color, shape, and length preferences.

Variety of Fabrics

A common drawback of custom-made neckties is the limited variety of basic fabrics, making them less appealing compared to off-the-shelf ties. However, our store offers over 200 types of necktie fabrics from Japan and Italy. Our extensive collection includes basic solids, dots, paisleys, stripes, and small patterns. From classic to trendy fabrics, we have options that stand toe-to-toe with the variety available in ready-made ties. Our selection mainly features 100% silk, along with casual fabrics like silk-linen and wool-silk, ideal for pairing with jackets.

Perfectly Sized for You

The primary advantage of a custom-made tie is that it can be tailored to your preferred size. Speaking from personal experience, finding the right length in ready-made ties can be challenging for someone of shorter stature. The satisfaction of having the larger and smaller ends fall precisely where you want is unique to custom-made ties. While standard ties are around 145 cm in length, we offer lengths ranging from 130 cm to 170 cm. Additionally, you can choose the width of the larger end, ranging from a super-narrow 4 cm to a wide 15 cm. My personal preference is to match the width of the tie to the approximately 9 cm lapel of the jacket, choosing a slim seam and a soft core to tie a single knot. The contrast between a tight small knot and a wide larger end creates a stylish bottle shape.

Customized Tailoring

At The Dressing Lab, you can choose from three primary styles of tailoring for your custom-made tie.

Regular

The most orthodox 3-fold style. This style features a tip with a core, resulting in a crisp and clean finish. You can choose either the same fabric or a lining for the back.

Hand-Roll (Three-rolled tip)

This style is finished with hand-sewing without a lining, and the core is cut so it doesn't show at the back. The absence of a lining and core at the tip, finished with hand-sewing, gives a soft and relaxed appearance. This is especially suitable for ties made from light fabrics like wool blends or linen.

Sette Piege (Seven-Fold)

This is the pinnacle of tie craftsmanship, featuring a seven-fold construction. Originally, ties were made by folding fabric around the neck, so this style is closest to the traditional origin. Crafting a tie from a single large piece of fabric folded into shape requires exceptional skill. Although more expensive due to using twice the amount of fabric, the Sette Piege offers a unique look along with lightness and softness. Supple silk fabric is ideal for this style.

Fabric Ties (Wool Ties)

At The Dressing Lab, you can also have ties made from suit or jacket fabric. We have around 20 types of deadstock wool materials for neckties, and you can choose your preferred fabric from suit and jacket bunch books for a custom order. Matching a tie to a suit or jacket adds a special touch unique to custom-made items. The main material for fabric ties is wool, offering a different texture from silk. High-count suit fabric results in an elegant tie, while a coarser jacket fabric creates a relaxed, knit-tie feel. Suit fabric ties also have a unique, understated color and pattern distinct from typical necktie fabrics. Additionally, suit and jacket fabrics often have superior stretch, making them comfortable to tie.

Ordering a necktie made from the same fabric as your suit or jacket adds a special touch of uniqueness and elegance that is inherent to custom-made items. The primary material for fabric ties is wool, which offers a distinct texture compared to silk. Ties made from high-grade suit fabric turn out luxuriously elegant and smooth, while those from coarser jacket fabric yield a relaxed, knit-tie feel. The understated colors and patterns, unique to fabrics originally woven for suits, offer a subtle yet unique appeal not found in standard necktie fabrics. Additionally, the stretchability of suit and jacket fabrics ensures that the tie feels soft and comfortable to knot.

Custom-Made Ties as Gifts

Custom-made neckties are also an excellent choice for gifts and presents. While selecting a ready-made tie is certainly a nice gesture, the experience of having the recipient choose their own fabric, size, and style for a custom order seems to be highly enjoyable and has been very well-received (we can also add initials as embroidery, if desired). Most importantly, a custom-made tie tailored to the recipient's preferences ensures that they will love and wear it, avoiding the disappointment of receiving a tie that doesn't suit their taste. A custom-ordered tie is guaranteed to be a memorable and cherished gift.

In the current business environment, where the significance of neckties is gradually diminishing, I believe their presence has become even more pronounced. A necktie now serves as a key item that can truly distinguish your style. We are keen to assist you in finding the necktie that best fits you, enhancing your personal and professional appearance.
