Dress Line "Tie"
I would like to introduce the Dress Line ties from The Dressing Lab's made-to-order menu. Our custom-made neckties can be tailored to your preferences in many details, including the fabric, length, width, interlining thickness, and stitching method. We can also create a one-of-a-kind necktie using deadstock fabric, making it a wonderful choice for a personal order or a special gift.
In today's business style, with cool biz, remote work, and more relaxed clothing becoming increasingly common, the traditional role of the necktie is gradually changing, much like the role of the suit. Because wearing a tie is no longer always required, I believe it has become even more important to choose a tie that truly suits your jacket, shirt, and personal style. The origin of the necktie, or cravat, is often said to come from a piece of cloth worn around the neck by European soldiers, sometimes as a kind of charm before going into battle. In that spirit, I would be happy to help you create a custom-made necktie that feels right for you in color, shape, and length, and supports you in your daily life.
Variety of Fabrics
One common concern with custom-made neckties is that the range of basic fabrics can be limited compared with ready-made ties. At The Dressing Lab, however, we offer more than 200 types of necktie fabrics from Japan and Italy. Our selection includes basic solids, dots, paisleys, stripes, and small patterns. From classic designs to fabrics with a more contemporary feeling, we have a wide variety that can be enjoyed just as much as ready-made ties. Most of our fabrics are 100% silk, but we also offer more casual materials such as silk-linen and wool-silk, which are especially nice to pair with jackets.
Perfectly Sized for You
One of the greatest advantages of a custom-made tie is that it can be made in the size that suits you best. From my own experience, I know that finding the right length in ready-made ties can be difficult, especially for those who are not very tall. With a custom-made tie, there is a special satisfaction in having both the blade and the tail fall exactly where you want them to. While standard ties are usually around 145 cm in length, we can make ties from 130 cm to 170 cm. You can also choose the width of the blade, from a very narrow 4 cm to a wide 15 cm. Personally, I like to match the tie width to a jacket lapel of around 9 cm, choosing a narrow seam and a soft interlining so that the tie can be worn with a single knot. The contrast between a compact knot and a wider blade creates a beautiful bottle-like shape.
Customized Tailoring
At The Dressing Lab, you can choose from three main tailoring styles for your custom-made tie.
Regular
This is the most orthodox 3-fold style. The tip is finished with interlining, giving the tie a clean and crisp appearance. For the back of the tie, you can choose either the same fabric as the front or a separate lining.

Hand-Roll (Three-rolled tip)
This style is finished by hand without lining at the tip, and the interlining is cut so that it does not show at the back. Because there is no lining or interlining at the tip, and because the edge is finished by hand, the tie has a soft and relaxed appearance. This style is especially suitable for ties made from lighter fabrics such as wool blends or linen.

Sette Piege (Seven-Fold)
This is one of the most luxurious styles in tie-making, featuring a seven-fold construction. Since ties originally developed from fabric folded around the neck, this style has a feeling that is close to the traditional origin of the necktie. Creating a tie from a large piece of fabric folded into shape requires a high level of skill. Because it uses about twice as much fabric, it is more costly, but the Sette Piege offers a unique appearance, as well as a light and soft feel. Supple silk fabrics are especially well suited to this style.

Fabric Ties (Wool Ties)
At The Dressing Lab, you can also order ties made from suit or jacket fabrics. We have around 20 types of deadstock wool materials for neckties, and you can also choose your preferred fabric from suit and jacket bunch books for a custom order. Matching a tie with the fabric of a suit or jacket gives it a special feeling that is unique to made-to-order clothing. The main material for these fabric ties is wool, which offers a different texture from silk. High-count suit fabrics create elegant and refined ties, while coarser jacket fabrics give a more relaxed feel, almost like a knit tie. Suit and jacket fabrics also have understated colors and patterns that are different from typical necktie fabrics. In addition, many of these fabrics have a natural stretch, making the tie soft and comfortable to knot.

Ordering a necktie made from the same fabric as your suit or jacket adds a subtle sense of uniqueness and elegance. Wool fabric ties have a character that is quite different from silk ties. A tie made from fine suit fabric can look smooth and refined, while a tie made from a more textured jacket fabric can feel relaxed and expressive. The quiet colors and patterns of fabrics originally woven for suits or jackets also create a charm that is not usually found in standard necktie fabrics. The softness and natural stretch of these fabrics also make the tie comfortable to tie and pleasant to wear.

Custom-Made Ties as Gifts
Custom-made neckties are also a very nice choice for gifts. Choosing a ready-made tie for someone is thoughtful, of course, but the experience of having the recipient choose the fabric, size, and tailoring style themselves can be especially enjoyable. It has also been very well received by many customers. Initial embroidery can also be added if desired. Most importantly, because the tie is made according to the recipient's own preferences, it is more likely to become a tie they truly enjoy wearing. A custom-made tie can become a memorable and personal gift.
In today's business environment, where neckties are worn less often than before, I feel that the presence of a good necktie has actually become stronger. A tie is now an item that can clearly express your style and individuality. I would be very happy to help you find, or create, a necktie that suits you beautifully and enhances both your personal and professional appearance.
