I would like to introduce The Dressing Lab.'s custom leather item: the Bespoke Leather Jacket.

About Bespoke:

To begin with, bespoke refers to what is generally known as fully custom-made. While made-to-measure, or pattern order, adjusts an existing pattern to fit the customer, bespoke creates a new pattern from the beginning. All of our leather jackets at The Dressing Lab. are made through a bespoke process. Of course, a stylish finish is important, but the greatest appeal is that we can carefully respond to your wishes in both design and fit.

The Unique Leather Jackets of Our Custom Salon:

When people think of leather jackets, rider jackets, bomber jackets, or designs inspired by motorsports and military wear may come to mind. Since our leather jackets are bespoke, we can create a wide range of designs according to your preferences. However, the design we receive the most orders for is the Tailored Jacket.

The term "Tailored Jacket" literally suggests a jacket made with tailoring techniques. It may sound slightly ambiguous, but here I use "Tailored Jacket" to distinguish it from sporty leather jackets such as rider jackets. It refers to a more dressy leather jacket with details such as notched lapels or peaked lapels.

Our leather Tailored Jacket is mainly made using finely thinned sheepskin, and we make it as light and soft as possible, without shoulder pads. As a custom salon, tailored jackets are one of our strengths. Just as with our Dress Line and Sports Line jackets, we also pay close attention to details such as the lapel roll and gorge line. Many customers are pleasantly surprised and say, "It doesn't even look like a typical leather jacket."

Our leather craftsmen have extensive experience making women's leather items and have also worked on leather pieces for haute couture maisons. Because of this background, whether it is a tailored jacket or even a rider jacket, the finished piece has a soft and elegant atmosphere.

Now, using a tailored jacket that I personally ordered as an example, let me introduce the basic details of our leather Tailored Jacket.

Single Tailored Jacket Details:

The leather is greige sheepskin suede. This beautiful, softly brushed suede is from the "Sheep Silky" series, and has a fine texture that almost seems to cling gently to the hand. Its smooth, silky touch truly feels close to silk, making you want to keep touching it. The comfort when worn is also unique, different from wool or cashmere. Because the suede has a matte finish, it is easy to incorporate into your wardrobe, even if you are new to leather jackets.

One of the defining features of our jackets is the natural shoulder, made without shoulder pads. This creates a jacket that feels light and soft, and looks as easy to throw on as it feels.

From the back, you can see the beautiful stitching and the quality of the leather. Because the back has a broad surface area, the character of the leather stands out very clearly.

Unlike mass-produced leather jackets, bespoke leather jackets are made by selecting the best parts of the hide, avoiding areas with flaws or deep wrinkles. It may sound natural, but it is actually a luxurious advantage of bespoke craftsmanship. Just as a skilled shoemaker understands leather deeply, a leather jacket craftsman is able to judge the quality and character of the leather. The finest hides are sourced, and then the best parts of those hides are selected for the jacket.

The sleeve cuffs feature functioning buttonholes, also known as surgeon's cuffs. For this jacket, I chose a three-button arrangement to give it a slightly sporty touch. Of course, the details can be customized according to your preference, such as four overlapping buttons, simple barrel cuffs without buttons, or even turn-up cuffs.

When the buttons are opened, you can see that the buttonholes are reinforced with machine stitching to ensure durability over many years of use.

The waist pockets are deliberately designed as double besom pockets without flaps. Patch pockets can often suit casual leather jackets, but choosing this more refined double besom pocket design gives the jacket an elegance that is not usually associated with leather jackets.

Creating a curved gorge line is difficult even with a typical wool jacket. It becomes possible because this is bespoke. During the fitting, I drew the desired gorge line directly onto the basted jacket and communicated the image to the craftsman. The curve, height, and angle were all adjusted carefully to bring the line as close as possible to the ideal.

Styling the Leather Jacket

From here, let me introduce some styling ideas for the leather jacket. Many customers say things such as, "I have always admired leather jackets, but they seem difficult to style," or "I bought a ready-made leather jacket before, but I was not sure how to wear it well." With that in mind, I styled the suede tailored jacket that I ordered with other custom items from our store, to show how versatile it can be in a dress-casual wardrobe.

Styling Option #1
Wool Polo Shirt + Drawstring Pants + Sneakers

Because our leather jackets are tailored without shoulder pads and made to feel light, they pair very naturally with dress-casual outfits. For this look, I chose a wool polo shirt, textured drawstring pants, and suede Adidas "Campus" sneakers. A leather tailored jacket can sometimes look quite sophisticated, but styling it in this way makes it more approachable for everyday wear. As the season changes, pairing it with a hoodie would also look very good.

Styling Option #2
Denim Shirt & Tie + Cotton Slacks + Monk Strap Shoes

For this look, I made the styling slightly dressier with a shirt and tie. Off-white trousers help highlight the upper body, while shades of brown and blue bring the whole outfit together. The darker V-zone gives the look a grounded and cohesive impression.


A denim shirt is extremely useful for this kind of styling. It would also look very nice without a tie, paired with a knit cardigan or a vest.

Styling Option #3
Mock Neck Knit + Wool Slacks + Coin Loafers

For this look, I tried to create a winter-appropriate style. I paired a light brown cashmere mock neck with flannel trousers and finished the outfit with black loafers.

The combination of cashmere knitwear and soft suede is undeniably elegant. It feels as if you are being gently wrapped in softness, and the comfort is wonderful. A leather jacket also blocks the wind well, giving it excellent warmth.

Next, let me introduce some of the options you can choose when ordering our leather jacket.

Leather Samples, Lining, and Buttons

For leather, we mainly recommend supple and beautiful sheepskin. With nearly 100 color variations, we offer a wide range of choices, including nappa, which is smooth leather, and suede. In addition to sheepskin, other types of leather such as calfskin, goatskin, and hair-on leather may also be available upon request.

For the lining, in addition to plain cupro, we also offer a rich selection of patterned linings from Italy.

For buttons, we mainly offer natural materials such as buffalo horn, shell, and nut buttons.

Using metal buttons to create a blazer-like look can also be very charming.

If desired, we can embroider your name inside the inner pocket.

On the opposite side, our brand name is attached.

Measurement and Delivery Time

First, we take your body measurements. After that, you will try on a sample jacket made from wool to check the balance and fit. If you have specific design or size preferences, and if you own a jacket with a design close to what you have in mind, we can discuss the design and size while referring to that jacket. We can also work from images or magazine clippings that you bring with you.

After that, a trial jacket will be prepared in approximately one month. You will then try on this trial piece, and we will confirm the measurements, make any necessary adjustments, and finalize the design. If major changes are needed after the first trial, we will prepare another trial jacket. The final leather jacket will be completed approximately one month after the final trial fitting. From the first measurement to completion, including the trial fitting process, the total lead time is usually around three months.

Examples Unique to Bespoke Orders

We can make not only single-breasted tailored jackets, but also double-breasted versions upon request. In addition to tailored jackets, we also accept orders for sporty leather jackets such as bomber jackets and rider jackets. Here, I would like to introduce some examples ordered by our customers.

Double-Breasted Tailored Jacket

This is a double-breasted tailored jacket made from suede. Instead of the more typical sheepskin, this jacket was made from goatskin, giving it a more rugged expression than fine-grained sheep suede. This particular goatskin suede was specially prepared for a customer who wanted this distinctive texture. Being able to respond to such specific leather requests is one of the strengths of bespoke tailoring.

The broad, curved lapel is very attractive. Peaked lapels can sometimes flare away from the body, but this one follows the body neatly, which shows the quality of the tailoring.

From this angle as well, you can see how the lapel sits beautifully along the body. The soft roll and clean balance are details that make this jacket feel dressy, even though it is made from leather.

The patch pockets are also fitted cleanly, without gaping.

The sleeve cuffs are finished with four overlapping buttons. Gold metal buttons were used, giving the jacket a blazer-like appearance.

The back style is also beautifully shaped and contoured.

This jacket was made with a custom full reverse specification. The standard construction for leather jackets is fully lined, which helps prevent the suede side of the leather from sticking to inner clothing or transferring color. For this customer, however, a lighter appearance and feel were prioritized over those concerns. Based on the customer's request, the lining was minimized, creating a full reverse specification that allows the wearer to feel the texture of the leather more directly.

Bomber Jacket

The bomber jacket is a design inspired by flight jackets worn by air force pilots. The well-known MA-1 is one type of bomber jacket. For this order, we created a luxurious bomber jacket made from deep, dark brown sheepskin. The collar, hem, and cuffs are accented with wool ribbing, giving the jacket excellent comfort.

Brown and gold is a combination that works beautifully.

To highlight the quality of the leather and tailoring, the details were kept as simple as possible. However, as the customer requested a gold zipper with presence, we specially sourced one to match that wish. The distinctive zipper pull becomes a subtle but memorable accent.

Even hidden areas, such as the back of the zipper, are carefully finished.

Shawl Collar Tailored Jacket

We received an order for a shawl collar jacket made from white nappa leather, which is smooth sheepskin. The shawl collar is often seen on tuxedos and is suited to glamorous evening or party scenes, but here it was playfully made in leather for everyday wear. This is one of the pleasures of bespoke tailoring.

The customer has a strong and imposing build, so we made the shawl collar generously wide and full, so that it would not be overwhelmed by his physique. The position of the flower hole and buttons was carefully checked during the trial fitting. The result is truly luxurious.

We incorporated the customer's favorite color, red, into the stitching. We also sourced special shell buttons with a red trim.

For the lining, we found a material that matched the red and white theme of this order beautifully. The ladybug pattern also gives the jacket a cheerful sense of good luck.

Tailored Jacket

This is a classic tailored jacket made from navy nappa leather, which is smooth sheepskin. It has a timeless sense of style.

The design is the same as the greige sheep suede jacket introduced earlier, but the change in material creates a very different impression.

The lustrous and visibly supple sheepskin is extremely elegant. It avoids the overly stiff or overly glossy impression often associated with outerwear-style leather jackets.

The buttons are made from genuine black buffalo horn, adding a chic and refined touch.

The jacket features besom pockets without flaps. The clean details give it a dignified atmosphere.

The back is finished with side vents. You can appreciate both the fine waist shaping and the beauty of the leather.
