I would like to introduce the Shirts from The Dressing Lab's Sports Line menu. These made-to-order shirts are versatile pieces that can be worn for both business casual settings and relaxed days off.

Unlike traditional dress shirts, which are mainly worn under suits, jackets, or formal wear, our Sports Line casual shirts are designed to have more presence on their own. They work well as inner layers, of course, but they can also be worn beautifully in business casual and off-duty styles.

Although they are casual shirts, they still benefit from the qualities of made-to-order tailoring. A well-balanced fit, careful stitching, and high-quality fabrics give them a refined feel that sets them apart from ordinary casual shirts. Let me introduce the lineup.

Band Collar Shirt

Our made-to-order band collar shirt is one of my personal favorites. It is very versatile and can be worn in both casual and slightly dressier settings. Instead of a regular collar, it features a distinctive low, band-like collar. In addition to the standard full-open design, it can also be made as a pullover.

Having it tailored with a neat fit as an inner layer for jackets is certainly a good choice, but I also recommend making it slightly looser for a more relaxed, casual atmosphere. The band collar creates a different kind of ease compared with a wide-spread collar or button-down collar.

By the way, when wearing casual shirts, do you prefer to tuck them in or leave them untucked? When fitting casual shirts at our store, we always ask customers how they would like to wear them. The most common answer is "both." For example, in a business casual setting, you may tuck the shirt into cotton trousers, while for remote work or a more relaxed day, you may wear it untucked with easy pants or shorts. At The Dressing Lab., we adjust the length so that the shirt hem does not easily come out when tucked in. At the same time, compared with dress shirts, we give the hem a slightly flatter shape so that it also looks natural when worn untucked.

Being able to adjust the hem design and length according to how you wear the shirt and the trousers you own is one of the advantages of made-to-order casual shirts.

Capri Shirts

Our made-to-order Capri Shirt is a summer staple with a relaxed resort feel. It is a pullover-style shirt, and instead of a regular button front, it uses loops for fastening.

The sleeves can be made as long sleeves, three-quarter sleeves, or short sleeves. Short sleeves give a more casual impression, while long sleeves and three-quarter sleeves feel a little more elegant. They also give you more styling options, such as lightly folding or rolling up the sleeves.

Linen is the classic fabric choice, but seersucker is also a very nice option. For the collar, I recommend a wide-spread cutaway collar. Worn with shorts and sandals or espadrilles, it is perfect for summer. It works well for city wear and is also an ideal companion for resort travel.

Denim Shirts

Our made-to-order denim shirt has been one of our best-selling items since we opened. The words "denim shirt" may make you think of weekend wear, but recently, along with our made-to-order polo shirts, we have also received more orders for business casual use. A high-quality, dress-tailored denim shirt is very useful. It can be worn under a jacket, layered with knitwear, or worn on its own. It has become an all-rounder for both casual and business casual styles.

For our standard denim and dungaree shirts, we use denim from Okayama, a region well known for denim production. However, unlike the rougher denim often associated with American casual style, our denim is woven with finer yarns. This gives it a smooth touch and a dressier appearance that can also work in business casual settings. After the shirt is made to order, it is washed in Kojima, Okayama, another area famous for denim. This gives the shirt a naturally worn-in, vintage-like expression, even though it is newly made.

You can choose between a deep indigo finish and a lighter indigo finish, depending on the strength of the wash.

You may wonder, "If the shirt is made to my measurements and then washed, won't it shrink and change size?" Please do not worry. When making our denim shirts, we calculate the shrinkage in advance. The shirt is first made slightly larger, and after washing, it settles into the ordered size. Since the shrinkage is already taken into account through this wash process, you do not need to worry about major shrinkage during regular home laundering. This is one of the reassuring features of our denim shirts.

A casual shirt made from a slightly firm fabric and tailored in a larger size can also be worn like an overshirt in spring or autumn. Personally, I have my casual shirts made in a standard fit when I want to wear them with suits or jackets, but for everyday wear, I like pullover band collar shirts made about two sizes larger. They go very well with my jeans and cargo pants, and have become some of my favorite pieces. For fabric choices, we offer casual materials such as denim and Oxford. For autumn and winter, corduroy and flannel are good options, while linen and seersucker are popular for spring and summer.
