Band Collar Shirt

Our custom-made band collar shirt is a personal favorite of mine and is versatile for both casual and formal settings. Instead of a regular collar, it features a distinctive low, band-like collar. In addition to the standard full-open design, it can also be tailored as a pullover.

Tailoring it to a perfect fit as an inner layer for jackets is certainly a great choice, but we also recommend having it crafted a bit looser for a more relaxed and casual vibe. The band collar offers a different relaxed ambiance compared to the wide-spread collar or button-down collar.

By the way, do you prefer your casual shirts "tucked in" inside your trousers or "tucked out" and left hanging? When fitting casual shirts at our store, we always ask our customers about their preference. The most common answer is "both." Perhaps in a business casual setting, one might tuck the shirt into cotton pants, while in more relaxed settings or during remote work, the shirt might be left untucked with easy pants or shorts. At The Dressing Lab's fitting, we adjust the length to ensure that the shirt hem doesn't easily protrude from the pants when tucked in. Additionally, we tailor the shirt with a flatter hem cut compared to dress shirts to ensure it looks natural when worn untucked.

Being able to adjust the hem design and length according to your wearing occasion and the trousers you own is a unique advantage of custom-made casual shirts.

Capri Shirts

Our made-to-order Capri shirt is a summer staple, exuding a resort-like vibe. It's a pullover type shirt where the front doesn't have traditional buttons; instead, it features loops for fastening.

Sleeve finishes are available in long sleeves, three-quarter sleeves, and short sleeves. While the short sleeve offers a casual look, the long and three-quarter sleeves provide a more elegant impression. They also allow for versatile styling, such as lightly folding or rolling them up.

Linen is the classic material choice, but crafting it in seersucker is also an excellent option. We recommend a wide-spread cutaway collar. Paired with shorts and either sandals or espadrilles, it's perfect for summer. Suitable for city wear and also an ideal companion for resort getaways.

Denim Shirts

Our custom-made denim shirt has been a best-seller ever since we opened. While the term "denim shirt" might evoke an image of weekend wear, recently, alongside our custom-made polo shirts, we've seen an uptick in orders for business casual purposes. Indeed, a high-quality dress-tailored denim shirt is ideal as an inner layer for jackets, works well layered with knitwear, and can also stand alone as a top piece. It's now a sought-after all-rounder for both casual and business settings.

Our staple denim and dungaree shirts utilize denim from Okayama prefecture, the denim capital. However, unlike the rough-textured denim commonly associated with American casual style, our denim is woven with finer threads, resulting in a smooth touch and a dress-like appearance suitable for business scenarios. Additionally, once tailored to order, these shirts undergo a wash process in Kojima city of Okayama, a renowned denim hub. This imparts a worn-in, vintage aesthetic to an otherwise new item.

You can choose between a deep indigo or a lighter indigo finish based on the wash intensity.

You might wonder, "If it's custom-tailored to my measurements and then washed, won't it shrink and alter the size?" But there's no need for concern. When crafting our denim shirts, we account for shrinkage. We initially tailor them slightly larger, and post-wash, they come down to the precise size you ordered. Since they're pre-shrunk through this wash process, you don't have to worry about them shrinking further during regular laundry - a notable feature of our shirts.

A casual shirt tailored from a somewhat stiff fabric and designed in a larger size can serve as an overshirt during spring or fall, acting as a lightweight outer layer. Personally, while I get my casual shirts tailored in a standard fit to pair with suits or jackets, for daily wear, I prefer pullover band-collar shirts tailored two sizes up. These shirts pair wonderfully with my jeans and cargo pants, making them a favorite in my wardrobe. For fabric choices, we offer casual options like denim and Oxford. For fall and winter, there's corduroy and flannel, while for spring and summer, linen and seersucker are popular.
