Introducing the New 2020 Autumn/Winter Overcoat Collection: Raglan Coat & Pea Coat

We are pleased to introduce two new overcoat models. Both designs were developed in response to requests from our customers. Neither too dressy nor too casual, these coats are designed to move naturally between business and leisure. They have a refined presence while remaining light and effortless to wear -- exactly the kind of coats that fit well into a modern wardrobe. I would be happy for you to take a closer look.

Raglan Coat

Available in both single-breasted and double-breasted versions. First, a brief explanation of what "raglan" means. Raglan sleeves are said to have originated from military garments, designed to make coats easier for injured soldiers to put on and take off. Unlike the more common set-in sleeves used in jackets and coats, raglan sleeves have a diagonal seam running from the neckline to the underarm. They give a more casual impression than set-in sleeves, while also creating a softer, more relaxed shoulder line and allowing excellent freedom of movement. This makes them particularly well suited to outerwear that can simply be thrown on and worn with ease.

The single-breasted Raglan Coat features a generous, classic Staincollar-style collar. Its soft volume gives the coat both character and refinement.

A waist belt is included. You can cinch it to create a more defined silhouette with elegant drape,

or tuck it casually into the side pocket, or simply let it hang loose for a more relaxed look.
You can also leave the front open and fasten only the belt at the waist, almost like a wrap coat.

The cuffs are finished with adjustable tabs.

The waist pockets are sporty slanted welt pockets. With a draped coat like this, you may naturally find yourself walking with your hands in your pockets.

The collar also looks elegant when worn up.

The double-breasted Raglan Coat has a very different appeal. Although it may not be a technically precise term, one could describe it as something like a "wool trench coat." Double-breasted coats can sometimes appear rather formal, but thanks to its soft construction, this model maintains a gentle and approachable impression.

It has a six-button double-breasted front. We recommend fastening only the middle button.

The collar design differs from that of the single-breasted version. This model features a sporty Ulster collar. Its generous width gives the coat a strong yet elegant presence.

The signature waist belt.

The drape, natural shoulder line, and back view are all beautifully balanced. The coat is finished with a center vent.

What do you think of the Raglan Coat? Once you try it on, I believe you will notice its lightness, soft feel, and richly draped silhouette.

Finally, a few words about sizing and fabrics. This Raglan Coat is designed to be worn with a slightly oversized, relaxed fit. While the length depends on personal preference, we currently favor longer proportions that fall below the knee. Traditional coating fabrics work beautifully, but as shown in our sample, we also recommend using flannel that would normally be chosen for suits or jackets to create a lighter and more fluid coat. For spring and summer, cotton or nylon fabrics can also be used to create a spring coat or raincoat-style piece. We are currently developing these options and look forward to introducing them in the future.

Next, let me introduce our second new model.

Pea Coat

The Pea Coat has its roots in British naval outerwear and is traditionally characterized by easy-access handwarmer pockets, large buttons, and heavy melton fabric. Our version reinterprets this classic design with a more refined sensibility. The concept sits somewhere between a jacket and a coat. Slightly longer than a jacket, it is easy to wear while driving or sitting. It also works well for casual winter occasions, such as enjoying a drink on a terrace. Less bulky than a full overcoat yet warmer than a jacket, it is ideal when you want something more refined than a down jacket but warmer than a blazer. Simply throw it over a knit, and you are ready to go.

The collar is a slightly slimmer Ulster style. Like a jacket, it also features a chest welt pocket. The six-button double-breasted front has compact button spacing that suits the light and casual character of the Pea Coat.

The waist pockets are framed patch pockets, chosen for their balance of refinement and casual appeal. Of course, classic slanted welt pockets can also be selected for a more traditional Pea Coat appearance.

The back is kept clean and simple, and is finished with a center vent.

The Pea Coat is designed with a fit approximately one size larger than a jacket, allowing it to be worn comfortably over thick knitwear or even over a tailored jacket. We recommend fabrics with some body and texture, such as brushed beaver, tweed, or the soft, loosely woven knit-like fabric used for this sample. As more occasions call for clothing that is neither too formal nor too casual, simply combining cotton trousers, a knit, and this Pea Coat creates a very well-balanced look. I believe a refined Pea Coat can become a very useful addition to a mature wardrobe.
