TDL Bespoke Line: A Review of a Bespoke Jacket

We are pleased to present a bespoke flannel jacket commissioned by one of our clients. This exceptional piece is defined by its understated elegance, with meticulous attention to detail woven into every element. We invite you to take a closer look.

We would like to introduce one of our customers' bespoke jackets. Let us take a closer look at the finished piece.

Mr. O's Bespoke Jacket - Completed Look

A three-button jacket with a three-roll-two stance. The flap pockets were intentionally designed as double-welt pockets. The overall balance is beautifully composed.


This is where various lines and directions of the fabric come together, creating an area rich in subtle detail.

A teardrop-shaped boutonnière hole. Discreet and beautifully refined.

The barchetta chest pocket has a restrained curve. The pattern matching is beautifully executed, allowing the pocket to blend naturally into the jacket -- almost enough to make you hesitate before adding a pocket square.

The pattern alignment on the waist pockets is also beautifully handled. Even the rounded corners of the flaps were carefully designed to complement the overall balance.

The pocket follows the natural curve of the waist beautifully. It may seem like a subtle detail, but I believe it plays an important role in the overall appearance of the jacket.

The relationship between the shoulder line and the gorge line is beautifully balanced. I particularly like the jacket from this angle.

For this bespoke jacket, Mr. O selected a fabric from FOX BROTHERS' "Vintage Fox" collection. This range brings carefully selected archival designs back into a modern context. The tonal grey check flannel has a beautifully smoky character that feels distinctly Fox.

Fitting Session

The jacket was paired with grey trousers, which were made-to-measure and ordered additionally during the fitting stage. The tonal coordination creates an elegant and cohesive look.
Mr. O has a strong appreciation for fine tailoring, while also preferring an understated appearance. His ideal is "quality that does not draw attention, yet speaks for itself."

The opening of the front cut and the shaping of the waist flow together beautifully, creating a very natural proportion.

Despite Mr. O's strong shoulders, the natural shoulder construction gives the jacket a soft impression. The line from the sleeve head to the chest is clean, with very little excess.

Mr. O has a pronounced forward shoulder posture, which can easily create discomfort if it is not properly addressed in the pattern. Comfort was therefore an important point during the fitting. When he tried on the finished jacket, he smiled and said, "It feels light. It feels soft!"

One of the distinctive features of our Bespoke Line is the two-panel construction without a separate side body panel. The dart extending toward the hem subtly reveals this structure. The shape and width of the pocket flaps are also carefully balanced with the rest of the jacket.

Since delivery, Mr. O has visited us several times wearing the jacket, and each time he enthusiastically tells us, "Bespoke jackets are simply the best!" He has already begun discussing his next commission and seems to be enjoying bespoke more and more.

Reflections on This Commission

Of course, one of the important strengths of bespoke tailoring lies in precise adjustments to the wearer's body, such as corrections for forward shoulders, and in the comfort that results from those adjustments.
However, this project reminded us that the value of bespoke lies not only in fit, but also in the careful balance of every element: button placement, pocket position, front cut, and overall proportions, all refined through multiple fitting stages.
This sense of balance may not immediately draw attention, but I believe it is one of the qualities that allows a garment to remain enjoyable for many years.

Another important aspect is the ability to adjust not only the fit, but also the degree of visual expression. Mr. O preferred subtlety rather than overt craftsmanship. Although extensive handwork was used, we intentionally kept its appearance understated.
Every customer looks for something slightly different from bespoke, and the ability to adjust these nuances is, I believe, one of the great appeals of bespoke tailoring.
